The majority of Albertans struggling
with poverty are working.

About 300,000 children and 199,000 families
are living in poverty in Alberta.

Red Deer has the highest percentage

of Ione parent families in Alberta.

38% of families in Red Deer are low income.

Poverty is more than a lack of money.

It’s a lack of opportunity.

When a child can’t attend recreation programs it impacts

their learning, mental health and resiliency.

Poverty costs all of us.

Between $7.1 and $9.5 billion is spent every year in Alberta

to manage the symptoms of poverty.

Poverty deters economic development.

People who don’t have sufficient income to meet their basic

needs, can’t contribute to the local economy.

Poverty affects us all.
Let’s understand it.
Let’s talk about it.
Let’s take action together.
