Chew On This! 2019
On October 17th, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, CAPRA participated in the annual Chew On This! event. In over 80 communities across Canada, people took to the streets and handed out Chew on This! brown paper lunch bags, which contained an apple and a postcard with facts on food insecurity in Canada. The bag is used to engage community members in conversations to spread awareness about hunger and the need for a federal plan to address poverty.
In Red Deer, we were able to pass out 150 of these bags within the community. Thanks to the Hub on Ross for supporting the event again this year and helping pass out bags. Welcome and Inclusive Communities committee shared their commitment to poverty reduction and distributed bags this year. A big thank you to the Central Alberta Co-op who was the generous donor of the apples.
Check out the photos and some of the media attention we gained on the day!
