Feed 500 Red Deer: Set Food Free!

‌Feed 500: Join us on Thursday, September 22, 2016, for a free feast for 500 people made entirely from high-quality food that would otherwise be thrown away.

Originating in London, England, Feeding the 5000 is a global movement that sheds light on the issue of food waste. The idea is simple: feed 5000 people – or 500 in the case of Red Deer – with food that would otherwise end up in the landfill – think imperfect produce, food that’s almost reached its best-before date and mislabeled food.

See how Red Deer College Cook Apprenticeship students transform rescued food into a delicious free lunch for 500 people. Part of the excitement is that we don’t know what we’ll be serving because it all depends on what food we’re able to rescue in the days leading up to the event. To get a glimpse of the great food other events have created, check out this video from Vancouver’s event.
