Smile Red Deer” campaign gives away mitts and scarves

Terri Grills To Red Deer News & Area

Wanted to share with you the exciting growth that’s happened with our first efforts to do something to help those that are homeless. A few short weeks ago we started a FB group called SMILE – Alberta and right away we got a good response from people all over the province.

We then realized we needed a group page for discussing local projects (sock drive, sewing Stocking/Scarves, collecting donations, etc) so SMILE – Red Deer was started and in a short time has donated over $1000 mitts, hats, socks and other needed items.

At that same time we had Smile Edmonton start up and their group has exploded with a strong leadership team. Last night they were out there in the freezing rain handing out hot chili, beverages and clothing to people lined up waiting to get into a homeless shelter.

We also have SMILE – Sylvan Lake and SMILE – Calgary up and started.

Please help us by spreading the message of these groups and consider becoming involved.

PS, We’re still collecting socks, mitts and other winter gear to distribute. We’re also in need of people willing to donate things to go into Christmas stockings.
